Continuous Professional Development
Aletheia Academies Trust believes in investing in our people. The Trust Executive Team has extensive experience in continuous professional development (CPD) and we invest heavily across our academies.
Our approach to CPD is strategic, targeting the needs of our individual schools and ensuring we make a positive impact on improving life chances for local children.
We offer a range of high-quality CPD led both by our central Executive Team and by our external facilitators. We ensure CPD has a direct benefit for both the individual and the school, to improve outcomes for our pupils.
In addition to bespoke development, across the school year, we provide Trust-wide CPD days to encourage collaboration and innovation across all schools. Senior and Middle leaders meet each term as part of key focus groups in which staff question and challenge to ensure that, as a Trust, we are always inspiring each other to deliver the best possible practice.
Leadership and Specialist Programmes
In collaboration with the Best Practice Network (BPN), judged Outstanding by Ofsted, members of the School Improvement Team facilitate fully funded regional Leadership and Specialist NPQ programmes (NPQH, NPQSL, NPQBC and NPQLT). These take place at least annually and offer staff in our schools direct access to high quality, accredited training. Working with BPN, senior leaders in our schools are also offered facilitation training to enable them to co-deliver the programmes alongside the Trust Improvement Ofﬁcers.
Our aim is to provide a clear development structure for each individual. We support the identification of leadership talent in our academies and offer supplying high-quality programmes that encourage the continuous supply of effective leaders for the Trust as part of our Performance Management and Professional Development.

Best Practice Teams (BPTs) and Other Trust Groups
A key component of our improvement strategy is the focused use of the expertise of our Executive Team that exists to support all of our schools.
The BPTs cover a range of curriculum subjects and support leads in the areas of:
- Computing (through our CAS Community)
- Humanities (focusing on geography in 2022/23 and history in 2023/24)
- Phonics and Early Reading
- Physical Education
- Science (through our work with Enthuse)
The Groups we have established to support wider school improvement include:
- Deputy Headteachers' Group
- Focus on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and provision for our ECTs
- Pupil Premium
- Pupil Voice
- Staff Voice
- Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs)
These groups focus sharply on a range of challenges and offer solutions, practical support, and guidance where it is needed.
Our Phonics and Early Reading Best Practice Team, for example, established a Trust approach to the teaching of phonics (Little Wandle). CPD for all staff, sharing and purchasing resources, lesson visits to schools and focused support where it was needed, ensured the new approach had a very positive and timely impact on standards in reading across the whole Trust.
