Aletheia Academies Trust is a Delivery Partner for Teach First, supplying training, judged as Outstanding by Ofsted, through our School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programme and Fully Funded Initial Teacher Training for postgraduates.

In partnership with Teach First, we endeavour to ensure that trainees have relevant, quality exposure to both the practical and theoretical elements of the course and can network regularly with others embarking on the same subject studies across our schools, and the Teach First offer nationally.

 

From September 2024, we will be partnering with ‘The Teacher Training Partnership’ delivered by their partners at NITE (National Institute of Teaching and Education, part of the Coventry University Group) to provide a variety of apprenticeships as routes into teaching and to develop existing staff. We accept Initial Teacher Training placements from Canterbury Christ Church UniversityGoldsmiths University, and the University of Greenwich.

We also partner with the Zurich University of Teacher Education to support overseas placements.

High Success Rates

Last year all our School Direct Associate Teachers and trainees successfully completed their placements and found employment in local schools, and some within the partnership. We pride ourselves on our 100% success rate.

In addition, we had a 100% success rate in all our ECT induction years. This is a result of delivering a high-quality post-training programme of support in the first two years for all our qualified teachers, building on all their strengths and areas for further development since gaining QTS.

From September 2024, we will also work alongside Teach First as a Delivery Partner for the ECF. Initial information about completing your ECT Induction through this partnership can be found on the Teach First website.

What teaching options are available for me?

 

Option 1 - School-Centred Initial Teacher Training  (Non-Salaried)

In our School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (non-salaried) programme, alongside our Ofsted Outstanding provider Teach First you will:

  • Have two block placements in different partnership schools.
  • Work closely with a school-based trained subject mentor and professional tutor.
  • Have additional subject specialist input.
  • Attend regular training sessions about broader educational issues (professional studies) where you meet and work with other training teachers on the School-Centred Initial Teacher Training Programme.
  • Be awarded Qualified Teacher Status to teach the Key Stages in relation to your chosen sector (primary or secondary) on successful completion of the programme.
  • Achieve a PGCE qualification from our Teach First partner university.

School-Centred Initial Teacher Training courses are designed based on the skills they are looking for in an Early Career Teacher (ECT). These courses start at the beginning of an academic year and finish at the end of June/start of July in that same academic year. The schools recruit you as a trainee for their School-Centred Initial Teacher Training course with a job in mind just for you. This is a popular choice for those who hope to secure a role in the network of schools where they train. This course will result in you achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

Costing

Tuition fees are covered by the trainee. We can provide support when applying to Student Finance if necessary. Depending on the subject you will be teaching and your Degree, you may be eligible for bursary funding.

Option 2 – Fully Funded Teacher Training Programme (Salaried)

Fully funded courses are designed by groups of schools – with a government accredited provider– based on the skills they are looking for in an early career teacher (ECT). These courses start at the beginning of an academic year and finish at the end of June/start of July in that same academic year (QTS) and the end of June/July the following academic year (PGDE).  The training provider recruit you as a trainee for their fully funded course with a job in mind just for you. This is a popular choice for those who hope to secure a role in the network of schools where they train. This course will result in you achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at the end of your training year and a PGDE from our Teach First partner university and the end of your first ECT year.

If you’re a graduate who meets the following eligibility requirements, Fully Funded (salaried) courses are available for you:

  • a 2.1 degree or above (we will consider a 2.2 for secondary teaching)
  • grade C/4 or equivalent in GCSE maths and English Language
  • for primary, a grade C/4 in one GCSE science subject as well.

On this school-led option, you’re selected directly by the school or partnership of schools you apply to – and you’ll earn a salary during your training. This is a great choice if you want to stay in the world of work, as you’ll be employed as an unqualified teacher during your training while you learn ‘on the job’. You are likely to have classes, on your own, from day one.  As a Fully Funded (salaried) trainee, you’ll be surrounded by experienced teachers and mentors to support you from the start. The principles of academic rigour on are the same as on university-led courses, too.

Option 3 – Fully Funded Apprenticeships (Salaried) 

The Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship is an alternative to traditional university-based teacher training.

Trainee teachers are employed by a school while learning on the job. Trainees are paid a wage on the unqualified teacher pay scale. They do not pay fees as funding comes by way of the Apprenticeship Levy.  

We also offer The Level 3 Teaching Assistant (TA) programme which is ideal for anyone already working as a Teaching Assistant or looking for a career as a Teaching Assistant.

Costing

The training cost to achieve QTS or Level 3 Teaching Assistant status is covered by the school. The amount you earn will be dependent on the school you train in but this year salaried trainee teachers have been paid at least scale 1 on the unqualified teacher pay scheme.
