Striding for Community to Mark Mental Health Awareness Week

For this year's Mental Health Awareness Week, staff from across our Trust came together in an inspiring show of energy and unity for our ‘Stride with Aletheia’ steps challenge. As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, colleagues laced up their walking shoes to embrace the outdoors, boost their wellbeing, and celebrate this year’s theme from the Mental Health Foundation: community.

The goal was simple - move more for our minds - and move we did! Collectively, we clocked up enough steps to walk across the USA, trek to Russia, or even explore the vast landscapes of North Africa. It was a powerful reminder that small steps, when taken together, can cover great distances.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part. Your enthusiasm and commitment made this initiative a great success, and it was wonderful to see so many of you engaging with nature and prioritising mental health through physical activity.

Special congratulations to Gurmeet Sidhu, who led the leaderboard with an incredible 266,036 steps! Gurmeet, Head of Physics at Gravesend Grammar School and known as Walkingsingh, is a dedicated advocate for physical and mental wellbeing. During the challenge, he walked nearly 200 km over five days, often starting as early as 1:30 am and continuing late into the evening, all while preparing for and leading a school trip to CERN. This remarkable effort was also part of his training for the 75km London to Brighton Challenge on May 24, which he’s undertaking in a single go to raise funds for Mental Health Matters. You can support his ongoing fundraising via justgiving.com/page/walkingsingh. In a generous gesture, Gurmeet also donated his £50 prize to the same cause.

Well done also to Will Forder, who not only placed second in the step count but also won our randomly selected photo competition. A great achievement all around!

Let’s continue to support each other, stay active, and keep wellbeing at the heart of everything we do.
