Trust Speaking Competition Grand Final 2026

On Wednesday 8th July, excitement buzzed through the halls of Gravesend Grammar School as finalists from across Aletheia Academies Trust gathered for the Grand Final of the Trust Speaking Competition. It was more than an event, it was a celebration of oracy, courage, and the extraordinary voices of our pupils.
From the moment the first speaker stepped onto the stage, the audience knew they were in for something special. Each finalist delivered a presentation rooted in personal passion, with topics as wonderfully diverse as Hamsters, J.K. Rowling, Cristiano Ronaldo, The Wilhelm Gustloff, and Animals. The sheer range of interests on display was inspiring; every speech offered a glimpse into the unique curiosities and talents that shape our pupils.
Some of the most powerful moments came from pupils who chose to share deeply personal stories. One finalist spoke movingly about her sister’s time in hospital with a lung condition, while another delivered an uplifting message about dreaming big and chasing her future ambitions. These heartfelt reflections captivated the room, reminding everyone of the profound ability of oracy to connect, empower, and advocate.
The judging panel Mr B Johnson (Trustee), Mr J Fotheringham (Assistant Head of Gravesend Grammar School for Boys), and two Head Students faced an incredibly tough challenge. Every speech showcased exceptional preparation, confidence, and individuality. Choosing a winner was no easy task.
After thoughtful deliberation, Isabelle from St Botolph’s Church of England Primary School was crowned the overall winner, achieving full marks. Her passionate call to action to save animals resonated deeply with the audience. Delivered with clarity, conviction, and heartfelt emotion, her speech left a lasting impact on everyone in the room.
The Grand Final was a powerful reminder of what happens when young people are given the space to speak, share, and shine. The future is bright and these pupils are already lighting the way.
A huge well done to all of our finalists, not just for the quality of your speeches, but for the authenticity, courage, and care you brought to the day. You represented your schools and yourselves with pride.
Thank you to all staff members and parents who supported pupils throughout the competition, and to everyone who helped organise the event. Special thanks to the judging panel for their thoughtful feedback, and to Gravesend Grammar School once again for hosting this year’s final.
A special mention also to Adrian Oldershaw who will sadly be retiring at the end of this year and after running this event for the past three years, he will pass the torch over to Mrs Handley (Head of School at Sedley’s CofE Primary School) for next years competition.
